Elinor Frey Plays Bach
Elinor Frey, cello
This concert is generously sponsored by Volunteers of the Book Sale.
J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites are among the most creative and virtuosic works for the instrument. Spanning the whole range of the cello’s capabilities, Bach weaves multi-voiced textures with a single line. Written around 1720, while Bach worked for the Court at Cöthen and was focused on composing instrumental music, these suites are at the heart of every cellist’s repertoire. Leading American-Canadian and JUNO-winning cellist, Elinor Frey, plays these wide-ranging pieces in the intimate acoustic of St. John’s Church.
