“Weavers of rich and plangent aural tapestries, The Gesualdo Six meld style and substance with beguiling sure-footedness” (BBC Music Magazine). The award-winning British vocal ensemble, The Gesualdo Six directed by Owain Park, features some of the UK’s finest consort singers. The ensemble has harnessed the power of social media to make classical music accessible to millions worldwide, creating captivating videos from beautiful locations like Elora while on tour. Their ninth album, Queen of Hearts was released in 2024.

For their return to the Elora Festival, The Gesualdo Six present Fading, a serene program inspired by the service of Compline. Much of the music here is inspired by this ancient service, evoking a contemplative atmosphere, including renaissance polyphony by Palestrina, Tallis and Gesualdo that contains startling harmonic shifts and expressive word painting. Then there is a turning point; the light returns, birds sing, and flowers bloom once more, with reflections by Veljo Tormis, Franz Schubert, and Gerda Blok-Wilson.

“Their sound seemed to float in mid-air before reaching the ears of the rapt audience… every line, every gorgeous texture was radiantly clear.”
